Number of Days Worked: 190 or 225 (includes school calendar days of regular and summer session), in-service, conference/IEP days

Department: Boys Town

FLSA Status: Exempt

Immediate Supervisor: Title I Program Coordinator / ESU #3 Executive Director of Program Services/Boys Town Principal

Staff Supervised: None

Essential Requirements:

1. No history of child abuse or negligence

2. Teaching certificate required

3. Ability to problem solve with students and staff

4. Evaluate basic skills and design an individualized program of study

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Understand and comply with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.

2. Assumes responsibility to Title I Coordinator and ESU #3 for the development and implementation of curriculum for the courses taught.

3. Helps to maintain an organized and welcoming environment for students.

4. Administers, corrects, and evaluates diagnostics for student placement.

5. Generates individualized lesson plans based on student needs and makes adjustments necessary.

6. Teaches study skills.

7. Ability to communicate effectively with teachers/students.

8. Uses the Boys Town behavior model to address student behaviors.

9. Other duties as assigned (see attached).

 

At Will Employment: Employment with ESU #3 is not for any period of time, and employment may be terminated at any time at the convenience of the terminating party, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Employment with ESU #3 is not governed by any express or implied contract of employment containing terms different from or inconsistent with those stated in this job description. The terms of this job description may not be modified except in a writing signed by the ESU #3 Administrator.

 

TASK LIST FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL INTERVENTION TEACHER

 

The Intervention Teacher will be responsible for the following duties at Boys Town Schools.

 

PROGRAM OPERATION:

 

• Generates individualized student lesson plans from prescribed mentoring activities and

materials that are based on identified need

• Researches and/or develops new materials to meet the needs of individual students as

necessary

• Analyzes and correlates lesson assignments based on student’s progress in mentoring

• Communicates on a regular basis with classroom teacher (when applicable) and family

teacher regarding the student’s academic progress and behavior

• Demonstrates use of effective praise and positive feedback to motivate academic and

social growth of students

• Uses social skills instruction when observing inappropriate student behavior

• Refers student for administrative intervention when escalation in negative behavior is

evident; directions action to reflect values and principles of Boys Town

• Assists SU #3/Title I with program inventory

• Maintains and makes adaptations to curriculum

 

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assumes responsibility to ESU #3 Executive Director of Program Services and Title I Program Coordinator, Boys Town School Principal.

• Follows all laws, policies, and procedures required by the federal government and Nebraska State Title I office regarding the Title I program for neglected youth.

• Maintains Nebraska Teaching Certificate.

• Meets with the Title I Program Coordinator periodically for scheduled consultations to review operations.

• Follows chain of command.

• Displays professionalism and confidentiality in all matters concerning students and Program.

• Attends and actively participates in IEP meetings to represent student achievement towards current goals and assists in the development of new goals.

• Participates in school meetings to coordinate efforts toward effective programming.

• Participates in school staff meetings, in-service education and self-selected professional growth experiences.

• Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, interdependence, and ethical behavior.

• Submits time sheets, leave requests, and other required documentation in a timely manner.

• Aids in preparation and closing of summer school.

 

PROVIDES INSTRUCTION:

  • Teaches targeted reading and math interventions to support student success.
  •  Provides educational support, including, but not limited to:
    • Development of curriculum materials for a broad range of subject areas
    • Co-teaching in multiple curricular areas
    • Pull out” teaching to specific skill deficits
