Description

We are seeking a Full-Time Civil Engineer (Designer) to join our Omaha Transportation & Public Works team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a growth mindset—ready to learn the technical tools and design software needed to grow into a successful licensed engineer.

Additionally, this candidate will:

Assist in producing design plans and specifications for urban and rural roadways, including grading, erosion control, and stormwater management
Support preparation of civil engineering design calculations, drainage reports, technical designs, and cost estimates
Learn about city, county, and state regulatory and reviewing authorities to understand design criteria, standards, and limitations

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an EAC/ABET, CEAB-accredited engineering program, or program that meets the NCEES Engineering Education Standard
Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification or ability to obtain within six months
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and introductory experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
Demonstrated team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Internship experience or up to two (2) years of engineering experience preferred
Experience with roadway design, hydrologic and hydraulic computations, computer modeling, and presentation of results.
Demonstrated knowledge of Public Improvement Plan layouts, design, and processes and procedures
Experience with the City of Omaha, Sarpy, and Douglas County, and/or other local agencies
Knowledge of the Omaha Regional Design Manual and PERMIX
