Description

We are seeking a Full-Time Civil Engineer (Designer) to join our Omaha Transportation & Public Works team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a growth mindset—ready to learn the technical tools and design software needed to grow into a successful licensed engineer.

Additionally, this candidate will:

  • Assist in producing design plans and specifications for urban and rural roadways, including grading, erosion control, and stormwater management
  • Support preparation of civil engineering design calculations, drainage reports, technical designs, and cost estimates
  • Learn about city, county, and state regulatory and reviewing authorities to understand design criteria, standards, and limitations 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an EAC/ABET, CEAB-accredited engineering program, or program that meets the NCEES Engineering Education Standard
  • Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification or ability to obtain within six months
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and introductory experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
  • Demonstrated team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship experience or up to two (2) years of engineering experience preferred
  • Experience with roadway design, hydrologic and hydraulic computations, computer modeling, and presentation of results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Public Improvement Plan layouts, design, and processes and procedures
  • Experience with the City of Omaha, Sarpy, and Douglas County, and/or other local agencies
  • Knowledge of the Omaha Regional Design Manual and PERMIX
